There are two advantages to utilizing the Tile Gasketing concept:

1) Improved vacuum efficiency by creating a gasketed vacuum clamp chamber area under any part, and

2) The tiles seal the surface on a porous spoilboard, such as MDF. A sealed-surface spoilboard to prevent vacuum pressure loss through the surface of the spoilboard as parts are being routed. This leak is the reason the end of a nest does not cut with the same quality as the start of a program: continued vacuum loss through the surface of the spoilboard as tool paths are exposed.

These tiles will cover an entire porous MDF surface, creating thousands of mini suction cups to hold parts. When customers are doing Nested Base Manufacturing, but want the benefit of vacuum clamping, these tiles are the solution. Not only will they create vacuum clamps to hold the sheets, but it prevents vacuum leak from occurring through the channels of an exposed spoilboard. An improved vacuum hold-down system in an ever-changing job environment is why the users of this item make it a part of their Nested Base Manufacturing process.

Hey guys, Mike Murphy here, the coach at All-Star CNC Products.
Today we’re at Erickson Framing here in Roseville, California.
We’re running the CNT Motion Systems 20 foot by 4 foot table. These guys are working on doing varied stair stringers, varied risers, varied runs, varied lengths. So in attempts to hold as many parts as we can – varied sizes in a single pass, no onion skins or tap cuts.

We’re going to apply today our tab, our tiles gasketing tiles, the 12 inch by 16 inch gasket sheets that will help turn the downdraft system into a vacuum clamping system. I think once we get to that system we’ll be able to do all these parts in a single pass, and I think we’re going to have tonight…

All right guys, now that we’ve got the spoil board resurfaced and fly cut, we’ve got a fresh surface on there. We’re gonna start to apply the gasket tiles to a flat surface to be able to help pull down the parts better. See how long this takes us to put these down…

Okay, so now that we’ve got the table covered with the tiles, we’re gonna be ready to start running some parts. The advantage is all these little holes now are going to create our suction clamp, with the added benefit of the sheet of gasketing being a non-porous material. The MDF is a porous material which is going to leak air as we start to cut our parts. The fact that we’re covering this is a non-porous cover (gasket material), as we start to cut our parts it’s going to be a sealed surface to get better, efficient use of the vacuum system that we have. So we’ll start cutting parts here shortly and see what kind of success we have.

So that is a quick application review of our tile gasket. We were at the customer for about a half day, like I said, they called us in because they were having trouble holding parts on their router. Once we installed the tile gasket concept, they were having great success in holding their finished parts in a single pass. So a great deal of vacuum improvement once we installed those tiles. Just like many other customers across the country are now starting to implement—it’s a great addition to those MDF spoil boards. Great solution for those folks, especially in the nested base manufacturing environments or those jobs that are always changing over and don’t have the desire or the interest in making any kind of dedicated fixture. So great solution. They are offered in individual tiles, we can also do them by the box (boxes with price break, enough tiles to do a four by eight table plus one additional tile as it starts to wear).
